Dear Family, friends & partners in prayer,

First of all I want to wish you a very 27 day belated Happy New years. My Latvian family and I started it off with a bang! Kristaps and I bought fireworks and at 12am set them off.

It was really neat to see fireworks going off all around us in the country side.

Looking forward.

I'm really looking forward to what 2012 will bring.
I have completed and turned in my residence permit paper work for the 2012/13 year.

My permit for 2011/12 ends February 20. The good thing this time was getting it turned in way before the due date. This saved both time, money and unneeded stress.

From Musician to Pastor/Teacher

While my traveling/concert ministry has slowed down for the winter season (believe me you don't want to travel in this kind of cold or snow), my ministry with Striki school and St Gregors Mission center has increased.

Now more then before I am very actively involved with the functions of St Gregors Mission center as I help set up conferences and guest speakers to come and share with our students and our community. This is on top of my other functions at St Gregors where I also teach and do pastoral ministry.

My ministry at Striki school which takes place on Wednesday and Fridays are both challenging and rewarding. I teach guitar class for grades second through eight as part of the music program. I also fill in for some of the teachers as a substitute from time to time.

While the children are learning English with me, I have found I have been expounding on my Latvian language with them. They help me retain what I have learned from my Latvian lesson I take once a week in Saldus.

My Role as a Dad

My ministry with my Latvian family I think has been the biggest blessing of them all. It has been such a big change for me to be in a "father/dad" role. But I have seen many changes since I have become part of my Latvian family. Before when we ate dinner, we would be in different rooms sitting on the couch watching TV while we eat our meals. Now a year later we turn the TV off, gather around the table, say prayer and eat as a family at the table. This has become one of my favorite times with my family.

I also notice a big change in my son Kristaps. In the last few months since I have been back he has brought his grades up. My daughter Liga is more then happy to have me back in Latvia.
I am truly convince that "fathers/dads" play a big role in the lives of both sons and daughters. And even though I am not "biologically" related to them, they mean the world to me as though they were. Investing in both their lives as well as the children at Striki School and the students at St Gregors Mission Center has become the biggest and greatest calling I have ever had.
Thank you for helping me not only serve my Latvian family, but to all the Lord brings me to here in Latvia and beyond.

Merry Christmas!! & Happy New Year

Dear family, friends & partners in prayer;

This has been an incredible year for me as I have been living in Latvia since November 2010. It has been a year of spiritual & personal growth in ways most likely could not have happened in the states. So many new adventures and opportunities continue to open up for me as I serve the Lord in Latvia and beyond while at the same time having to learn a whole new language and culture.

I am excited to see what new adventures await me in 2012. I’m sure as they will unfold, the Lord will continue to take me outside my comfort zone so that I am fully relying on Him. I do look forward to sharing what He does with you in the coming year.

I have now put away the summer and fall clothing and have taken out all the sweaters and other warm clothes for the winter. We already had our first snow fall of the winter and were expecting a “White Christmas” again this year.

On behalf of my family & friends from Latvia we want to wish you a Christ filled Christmas & and awesome new 2012. Thank you everyone who has believed in me, prayed for me and supported me in my mission ministry to Latvia. I feel blessed that I have been able to touch so many lives this past year because of your support. I at least know two children who are very grateful that I am in Latvia and I’m now a part of their family. Thank you for making this possible.

One Year Later.
Dear Family, friends & partners in prayer,
As I sit in a warm house in Striki, Latvia sheltered by the very cold autumn night waiting to enjoy another home cook Latvian meal, it is hard to believe I have reached my official one year in Latvia.
Never in my wildest dreams did I think a week long English Bible camp in the summer of 2010, would turn into a 3 month short term mission trip that would only cause me to fall more in love with the people and country of Latvia.
That 3 month short term mission trip eventually turned into a year.

Looking back.
It has been an incredible year of growth for me becoming in many ways a student again learning the Latvian language, culture and its many wonderful traditions and customs. My life has forever changed. In the past 20 years in the states I was known as a Christian recording artist, conference speaker and minister.
Now in Latvia, I am a music and English teacher for Striki School. Give lectures and do pastoral ministry for St Gregors Christian Mission Center in Saldus. Do mission outreach in various ways traveling throughout Latvia as a guest pastor/Christian recording artist and have become a “dad” to two wonderful Latvian kids who “adopted” me into their family.

What’s ahead?
As I get ready to renew my residence permit for another year, I just have this strong feeling I have just barely begun to fulfill The Lord’s divine purpose and plan not only for my life, but also for the wonderful people of Latvia. There is such so much work to do here as many have yet to hear the good news of new life in Jesus Christ.
Besides continuing with the different ministries the Lord has me involved already, I have been developing close relationships with pastors both in Saldus and Riga as we also consider doing ministry outreach beyond Latvia.

Be a part of the adventure.
Every summer my friends at East European Mission Network conduct the English Bible camp throughout Eastern Europe. For two weeks out of the summer we do outreach for the children in Saldus/Striki & Riga Latvia. It is one our biggest outreach that impacts not only the children, but the teachers, parents and community.

Dear Family, friends & partners in prayer,

Greetings from Saluds/Striki Latvia!

Thank you so much to all the churches, and host families that played a big part in my “For the Love of Latvia” tour this past summer. This tour has been one of the most busy jam packed tour I have done in a long time that has taken me to several states and filled with many non stop back to back engagements. Whew! This trip wore me out!

I arrived back in Latvia October 18^th were I was warmly greeted by my two eagerly waiting Latvian children (Kristaps & Liga) who have been counting down the days of my return since I left August the 9^th!

I have already jumped right back to work at the school in Striki and I had a chance to meet the new college students at St Gregors Mission center were I’ll also be teaching and doing pastoral ministry . I’m also looking forward to traveling with Pastor Raimonds of St Gregors and doing ministry events again here in Latvia.

Right now I am enjoying a week long vacation since school is on their fall holiday. And after a crazy 2 ½ month of nonstop traveling, this week was needed!

I'm currently in Sheboygan, WI right in the middle of my "For the Love of Latvia" tour.
It also has been a whirlwind tour for me as I just came from California and after Wisconsin head to Michigan and then to New York/New Jersey. Between all these stop, I try to visit friends in Indiana and Ohio.
I don't remember the last time I crammed so many dates or states in a short time. I have to laugh through, my sleeping is so off.
Part of me is still on Latvian time, another part is on East Coast time, Central time and then another part is on West Coast time. Please pray I get enough sleep!!

Dear family, friends & partners in prayers,
In a few days I will be back in the states to present my “For the Love of Latvia” tour for two and a half months. This tour is in support for my continuing work in Latvia & Eastern Europe. I am amazed how the Lord has open doors for me to share about Latvia as this tour will cover Indiana, Michigan, Wisconsin, California, New York & New Jersey. Whew! That is going to be a lot of traveling in 2 months.

New Studio Recording Release!!
Even though I have a major CD project still in the works back in the states called "Before Your Throne", I was able to record a new acoustic worship CD here in Saldus, Latvia for this tour. My deepest thanks to Viesturs Knopkens of Saldus Latvia, who has donated his time and studio. This acoustic album will feature some well known worship songs with a few done in both English & Latvian as well as a few of my own compositions.
It will be one way for me to introduce people to the Latvian Language that I am currently learning.

I am really excited about this project. This is my first full length studio recording in over 10 years and I'm so glad it is a project that is close to my heart since in many ways it was recorded for and on behalf of the people of Latvia. I will be premiering this CD August 14th at Calvary Chapel on the Horizon & Spirit of Joy Church both in Indianapolis, IN as my two home churches are also my kick off dates to my 2 1/2 month tour.

Musicianary News For July 2011

Dear Family,Friends & Partners in Prayer,
Now as we are in the middle of summer, the days are long,the nights are short. It is not uncommon to join your neighbors at the lake for a late night swim or to stay up late playing games.

English Bible Camp is in full swing!
Well we just had our 7th annual English Bible camp at Striki School with over 110 students attending! That beats last year attendance of 80 students. We were filled to the roof as the kids learned English through the life of David from the Bible with “Hope” as the theme. All the kids did a fabulous job presenting the different dramas of the life of David.
This year I decided to introduce some new worship songs to the students (ranging from 1st to 9th grade). They belted out “God’s not dead”, “Mighty to Save”, “Jesus Loves Me” & closed with “All who are thirsty” which we did both in English & Latvian.

I’m now writing you from Riga, Latvia, where we are presenting our 1st English Bible camp at a church in an “inner city” area were there is a mixture of Latvians & Russians. I’m staying in a typical high rise apartment built during the soviet area. All the buildings look the same. They remind me of the inner city projects, lifeless blocks of cement with windows.

This camp is way different in the fact that we are working with only 30 students, most in the 1st and 2nd grade. It is held in a church and not in a school making this the first time most of the children to even step foot in a church. Most have never heard there is a God or about the love of Jesus. Sadly many of the parents are atheist due to the former soviet influence and oppression. Dear Family, friends & partners in prayer,
Well summer is in full swing here in Latvia. The day’s are much longer now with the sunrise being at 4am and sunset at 1am. It’s hard to imagine that just a few months ago; we were shivering in the cold bundled up from head to toe. Now tee shirts and shorts have replaced the heavy jackets, scarves and gloves.

Teaching, Traveling & Training
May ended up being a very busy and fruitful time of ministry for me. Besides teaching at Striki and Druva schools and helping the kids get ready for final exams, I also became more involved in the life, mission & vision of St Gregors Mission Center in Saldus. In the role of "teacher", I have giving lectures & hosted a Monday night "worship jam/guitar class".

In the role of a "Pastor" I have conducted several worship services for the Tuesday night Chapel service.
I also started to join with some of the students on some of their out reaches and began to travel with Pastor Raimonds who is the director of St Gregors,on several of his ministry engagements.He would bring the message and I would provide the worship music for the service or perform a concert after the service. I decided to bring Ieva Abole, a St Gregors Mission Centers student who was apart of my guitar class. Ieva has a voice of an angel. We notice that when we sing together we really do complement each other.
Well the Lord seem to open up doors for us . We ended up sharing in several churches, music festivals, youth and family out reaches, a wedding, and graduation.

Since I have been in the music ministry for over 20 years, Pastor Raimonds felt I should offer to train the students about mission ministry by having them travel with me. Since St Gregors is a mission training center it would be a great way for the students to learn on the spot about music ministry, traveling & conducting a service. These are things you just can't learn in a book. We are praying about representing the ministry of St Gregors Mission Center by having Ieva & I do a tour not just in Latvia or Eastern Europe, but possibly in Ireland and England. We’re even praying about recording a worship CD. So please keep us in prayer as we seek the Lord in what He would want us to do.

Looking forward to a busy summer June is already looking busy as Ieva and I have another month of Christian music festival and church services through out Latvia. On top of this I am getting ready for the two English Bible camps that East European Mission Network (the ministry that I have partner up with) will be presenting. The first one will be at hosted by the Striki School in Striki from June 27th to July 1st. The second one will be in Riga July 4th to the 8th hosted by fellow EEMN missionary's Pastor Martins & his wife Gunta Irbes. This will be their first one held in Riga. Please pray that the hearts of the students,teachers and translators would be open to receive the good news about new life in Jesus Christ. Please pray also for my fellow American mission team who will be here for two weeks would be open to the leading of the Holy Spirit and be flexible to what ever surprises may come up.

Dear family, Friends & partners in prayer,
Spring is Here!
At last spring has come to Latvia! What a pleasant change of weather after experiencing 4 months of a bitter cold winter. The short days have now been replaced with early morning sunrise (5:30am) & late sunsets (9:45pm). As the days start to get longer (In the summer the sun rises around 4:30 am and sets at 1:30 am) the people are now out and about in the town of Saldus. Kids playing in the local park and many out door activities have people basking in the warm sun. Personally I am glad to shed the heavy sweaters, snow boots and gloves and trade them for tee shirts and shorts.

Teaching, Traveling ,Singing & Speaking
May is also the last month of school for the kids at Striki & Druva School. It is hard to believe that I have been here for much of the school year. May has also turned out to be a very busy month of ministry for me as well. I have been traveling every weekend through out Latvia doing singing/speaking engagements. Please pray the Lord will use me mightily in these services and ministry events.

Gearing up for a Busy Summer
Between teaching, and my traveling ministry, I am also gearing up for the English Bible Camp that takes place in Striki & Riga late June early July. We have a wonderful team coming from the states again. Please be in prayer that the Lord will use the Bible Camp to reach both students and teachers for the Gospel.

I will be teaching the 2nd grade class, the music class, as well as do opening worship for the chapel service. Whew! Talk about being busy.

From August 8th to October 16th, I will be back in the states to travel and raise support for my continuing mission work in Latvia. As with any missionary ministry, it does take funding. It is expensive to live in Latvia. Case in point, I bought grocery's and the total came to Ls 20.00 (twenty lats) I went to use my card (I try not to carry cash).
A day later I went to update my bank account and saw that with the exchange rate in US dollars I am really paying $40.00.
So please know your love offering not only helps with the food but housing & other personal expense . The ministry expense includes, traveling (remember my car is back in Indiana) office supplies , guitar strings, CD duplication, printing and web site maintenance.

As a missionary in Latvia, I must at lest raise $500.00 per month the minimum required by the Latvian government to stay here as a missionary. Any love offering of $5, $10, $25, $50 or $100.00 per month or as a one time gift does make a difference to the lives of the children and the families we are reaching here in Saldus & Striki Latvia.

Happy Resurrection Sunday & update for April

Dear Family,friends & partners in prayer,
Spring greetings from Striki & Saldus Latvia!!! Finally! After 4 months of short days, long nights & bitter cold winter snow, Spring has arrived! Now the days are getting longer (right now the sunrise is at 5:30 am & sunset is around 9 pm) and the weather is getting warmer. I have been looking forward to not have to wear layers of clothing to keep warm
Now I need to buy spring and summer clothes since all I have is winter clothes with me.

Celebrating Easter in Latvia
Since November 17th, I have experienced , Latvia birthday, Christmas, New Years,Valentines day, "Women's Day, Spring break & now Easter.
The one thing I have been learning from my Latvian friends is many of the "Christian" holidays (Christmas, Easter) have been celebrated even during the Soviet occupation but with more of the secular or pagan influence ( Christmas-Winter Solstice, Easter -Eggs, Bunnies rabbits or the old believe in the goddess "Eastre"-thus where the term "Easter comes from")

I sometimes forget that Latvia is a very old country and has had many different believes before Christianity came here. And unfortunately as one person shared with me, "Christianity came by the sword". Meaning that the Roman church "forced you to become a Christian".
From what I have been told, people are not closed to Christianity, but they are some what leery about it since all they knew about it is that it was forced upon them many many years ago. Let's say there is a somewhat a "stigma" of how the Gospel message was presented to Latvia back in the 13th century that still lingers today.
Daina the head master at Striki School was kind enough to share with me a little of Latvian long history.

Resurrection Sunday
This Resurrection Sunday (I prefer using this term then "Easter" since that has more of a pagan roots, were Resurrection Sunday has a Biblical root) The Lord has open the door for me to preach at St John Lutheran Church in Saldus on "Easter Vigil". It is a very big formal worship service. The service starts at 10pm and ends after midnight celebrating Resurrection Sunday. Later on Resurrection Sunday, I'll be doing an out reach ministry in Latvia and on Resurrection Monday I'll be doing another ministry event.

I know back in the states there are pastor's who don't believe in the Resurrection of Jesus (which makes me wonder why are they pastor's if there version of Jesus is still dead) So far Latvia has been spared the so called "progressive Christianity" (which to me is not progressive, but regressive as they drift far from God's Word and embrace the words & philosophy of man)

Would you please pray that the Lord will empower me with His Holy Spirit to boldly and passionately proclaim the Resurrection of our Lord Jesus that many will come to faith in Jesus.
This will be my first time "preaching " on Resurrection Sunday. For years I just sang, but this is way different. Please pray that I just keep it simple (since I will also need someone to translate for me) But at the same time lift up Jesus that through the message, they would see Him Risen & Glorified.

Gearing up for Bible Camp
This year I will be doing two Bible camps. One in Striki and the other in Riga, Latvia.
The theme is "Hope" and we are once again centering on the Life of David. (This was the same theme we used when I first came to Latvia in 2008.)
I am excited to be reunited with my missionary friends from the states. Please pray the hearts of both the students and the teachers would be open to the Gospel message and that many will come to faith in Jesus.
This was one of the reasons I came back to Latvia, to mentor and disciple those who may come to faith in Jesus.

Dear Family, friends & partners in Prayer,
Greetings from Striki School in Striki Latvia.!!
Yes the Lord open the door for me to extend my 3 month visit to a whole year . I want to say a big thank you for all of you who have teamed up with me in prayer concerning my staying longer in Latvia. I was greatly encouraged by all the emails and facebook message and for those who have given financially in the past.
I am so excited to see what the Lord has in store for me as I serve Him in Latvia and beyond.

I am also looking forward to spring and summer were we can enjoy the longer days. This has been one of the coldest winters I have ever experienced in my entire life!! Now I know why Eastern European people dress up with big coats and furry hats. They keep you warm. I'm looking forward to not having to wear many layers of clothing!!

My Latvian Family
In Psalm 68:6 it reads "You find families for those who are lonely" ( Contemporary English Version)
I have found this verse so true in my life and ministry. I can't believe how many "mom's I have across the United States or older brothers and sisters in the Lord that I look up to.

Kristaps was one of my former students from the English Bible camp in 2008. It started when the heat went out in St Gregors mission center in December. It was way to cold to stay there. Daina the head master arranged for me to stay at Maija's home for a few days. During the course of time, I became apart of the family. It has been some what of an eye opener for me. At times I find myself as a friend to Kristaps & Liga, sometimes the "big brother" and at other times "Dad or father".
I have so much respect for their mom Maija. It isn't easy being a single mom raising a a growing teen who is active, hyper and if you let him could get himself into trouble or a 9 year old girl who is so bright for her age you think she was already in her twenties. So what is it I do in Latvia??
I am excited as the Lord open the door for me to stay longer in Latvia. In many ways I feel like I'm the one in "school" as I slowly learn a new language, adjust to a different culture, and being open to be taken outside my comfort zone at anytime.
So what does the Lord have me doing in Latvia? Here is a break down in how I am serving in Latvia.

1) To be an example of a Christian to the students by being among them.
For many, Striki school (which is not a "Christian School"), is the first interdiction to Jesus Christ and Christianity because of the English Bible camp that East European Mission Network host in the summer and the school director, Daina Zandberga who has a deep desire that the children would at lest know about Jesus by offering Christian education and morning devotions. I have the honor to lead the morning devotions on Friday.

2) To Serve Striki, Druva & St Gregors Schools.
In Striki School,
I serve the kids on Monday, Wednesday & Friday. On Monday I teach English using drama. I also offer a guitar class after school. On Wednesday I am there as more of a support for Daina or the teachers that may need help. On Friday I work with fellow teacher Aniti Zandberga as we team teach again using drama and games. I teach from 1st to 9th graders so believe me it is never boring!
In Druva School
On Tuesday & Thursday, I teach a group 1st,2nd & 3rd graders of "home schooled"kids that meet at Druva Jr High school. This home school group is Christian based so they encourage me to really share about Jesus in any and every way. I recently met the director of the Druva Jr high school (which is not a Christian school) after they met me at a conference in Striki. They have asked me if I'd be willing to come and share at their school as well. I'll keep you posted.
In St Gregors

St.Gregor's Christian Mission Center in Saldus, Latvia is a meeting place for missionaries from all around the world, established for people to be called, trained and sent out into ministry "to the ends of the earth".
I have the honor to live here at St Gregors, (when I'm not at my Latvian family home). I serve under pastor Raimonds Mezins who is the director of St Gregors. He has a big heart for out reach. Here at St Gregors, I have given Bible studies/ Lectures and offer guitar class. And at times, join them for ministry outreach.

Speaking & Singing Ministry
Many have asked me if I ever speak/preach or sing anymore now that I am in Latvia. Well the answer is yes.
Since I have been here in November, the Lord has open up doors of ministry for me to preach and sing at different churches and ministry conferences. Of course unlike in the states were I have many contacts and I am known, here in Latvia the doors open as people get to know more about me.
In many ways it almost like "starting over again". Press kits, past achievements or music awards really don't mean a thing here. But having a strong witness and knowing "the right people or they getting to know you" is what the Lord has been using to open doors.
I look forward to see what other doors will open as the year unfolds.

English Bible Camp
As a missionary on behalf of East European Mission Network , one of my prayers is to be used not only during the English Bible Camp that we host in late June/July here in Striki & Riga, Latvia, but to hopefully do follow up with the kids who may come to Christ during the camp. Would you begin to pray that the Lord will soften the hearts of both the kids and the teachers? In many ways this is one of the biggest outreach to the kids at Striki & Riga Latvia.

Would you partner with me?
One of the biggest change I notice is having a sense of stability. While in the state's I pretty much lived outside of a suitcase traveling all over the states doing ministry events. The Lord has always been faithful in supplying for all my needs through my ministry events.

Now for the first time in years, it has been different to be at the same place every day and invest in the lives of the kids in Striki and Saldus. The one thing I always missed out when traveling on the road, is not seeing the fruit that the Lord may have brought forth from my ministry event. Now as I have been here in Latvia, to see the Lord move among the hearts of the kids has been exciting. It is almost like being a farmer who plants and now waits for the harvest. But unlike the states, I am not supported by my ministry events.

As with any missionary ministry, it does take funding. As an official missionary with East European Mission Network, I must at lest raise $500.00 per month the minimum required by the Latvian government to stay here as a missionary.

Any love offering of $5, $10, $25, $50 or $100.00 per month or as a one time gift does make a difference to the lives of the children and the families we are reaching here in Saldus & Striki Latvia.

Happy Belated New Year & Happy Early Valentines Day!!

Dear family, friends & partners in prayer; Greetings from the wonderful country side of Latvia. I hope you had a great holiday season with your loved ones.

I enjoyed having a very white Christmas with my good friends at the farm in the country side of Striki. I can truly say I have never seen so much snow in my entire life! I also enjoyed trying new foods and Christmas traditions as I celebrated Christmas both on December 25^th and January 6^th (The Orthodox Christians day).

New years was spent with one of my fellow teacher from the Striki School and her husband as we watched fire works in Saldus. Talk about starting the New Year with a bang!

One Student at a Time.

Even though I came to Latvia during the “dead of winter”, battled with a sinus infection for the whole month of January and at times felt frustrated because I don’t know the Latvian language to hold a conversation, my heart has truly fallen in love with Latvia, her people and the children at Striki School.

There were times I really questioned if I was in God’s will. Many times I felt so out side

my realm of experience. I began to wonder if I was really being any help to Daina the director of Striki School, the teachers or the students.

The kids that once sang really loud at English Bible camp during the summer now seemed withdrawn, shy or embarrassed to sing in front of the others. At times I kept asking the Lord, “And how am I going to reach them”?

And yet, just when I was really questioning if I was being any help, the Lord bless me by reaffirming to me that I was not wasting my time or theirs.Through different conversations with teachers, parents, & families each one shared how they can see and even feel the difference in both the school and in some of the lives of the kids.

As I wrote in my personal journal in the late summer of 2010 “Why does it feel like I need to go back to Latvia? Why does it feel like I have “children” in Latvia that need a parent”? This was answered by one of the families who shared with me “You have made a big impact in our nephew’s life. We have seen major changes. Even his mom says “You can tell when David Michael been at our home, chores get done, homework gets done and there’s peace. When he is not here, it is a battle between wills”. “In many ways you have been a father to our nephew David Michael, something he has needed since his dad left the family 3 years ago.”

And that is when it hit me. It is all about building relationships and in many ways it will be reaching one student at a time.

Extending my stay in Latvia

After much prayer and conversations with some trusted friends, I have already begun to work on the paper work to extend my stay here in Latvia. I am working on staying past my original February 8^th departure date. But would you please pray with me on this?

By Latvian law I am allowed to be in Latvia for 90 days without a visa. Well February 14th would be the full 90 days. We are doing a “mad rush” in getting the paper work for a residence permit to the Latvian government by the due date of February 14^th.

We did run into a major road block. The Latvian government needed a few documents from the US. But as many of you know, a major winter storm has covered a good region of the country making it impossible to ship anything overseas. Thank the Lord they were shipped Thursday February 3rd and should arrive here February 8th or 9th. Our cut off date is February 7th!!

So please pray the Lord will give us favor with the Latvian government to give us a few more extra days. And if you would please pray the Lord would again give us favor with the Latvian government and that the residence permit would be granted. If it is granted, I would stay in Latvia for a whole year.

So why stay in Latvia?

I just have this strong leading from the Lord, I need to stay. I am very much involved with many of the kid’s lives as well as the life of Striki School. I have become very much apart of this school year and would want to finish it out. It wouldn’t make sense for me to come back to the states and try to raise money for a plane ticket that I would need to come back in June, when I could just change the ticket I have now for a much lower price.

This is where we really could use some prayer warriors. Please pray for Godly wisdom in what we should do. Of course we also have to see what Latvian immigration says as well.

Moya the cat

If the Lord is leading me to stay longer we are praying for a temporary home for Moya the Cat. I

would love to bring her here with me. But she since she throws a fit just going for a 10 min drive to the doctors; I don’t think she would enjoy being bounced around in the cargo area of the plane for 12 plus hours.

If anyone in the Indianapolis, Indiana area would want to give a temporary home to a

wonderful declawed, neutered well behave tabby cat with a heart of gold, please contact me at 317-641-3600. My friend Anthony who has been taking care of my home while I have been away has bad allergies to cats and has endured the last 4 months watching Moya for me at his own health expense.

There are three ways you can join me in this new mission adventure the Lord has me on.

1) Become a partner in missions through prayer:

I don’t even know how to stress the importance of having a good prayer team behind someone in ministry. I know for a fact I could not even make it past the first week here in Latvia if it wasn’t for the many of you who keep me in your daily prayers.

In the past you have prayed for the Lord to guide me, provide for me, heal me, make a way for me and be with me through the storms of life.

So here is what we need prayer for now:

A) Urgent! That the Lord would help us get the paper work and documents that we need from the states in as soon as possible since we have a fast approaching cut off date.

B) Financial provision to cover my time in Latvia

C) For the up coming concerts, ministry events and the two English Bible camps that will take place this summer in Latvia.

2) Become a partner in mission by your love offerings and donations

Believing the Lord has called me to be a missionary to Latvia & Eastern Europe; I decided to not renew my apartment lease. This has finically freed me up leaving me with minimum personal & ministry expense.

The Lord has given me so much favor here in Latvia. He has provided a great place for me to live and a few Latvian families that have also “adopted” me so believe me I have been blessed with food and shelter.

But as with any missionary ministry, it does take funding. As an official missionary with East European Mission Network, I must at lest raise $500.00 per month the minimum required by the Latvian government to stay here as a missionary.

The deadline for applications for the 7th Annual English Bible Camp in Latvia is approaching. Dates for the camp are June 23 - July 10. This year there will be two teaching weeks for students in grades 1 - 11 with one week in Saldus/Striki and the other with the Irbes in Riga. Come out and join me reaching Latvia for Jesus Christ!

Merry Christmas from Saldus/Striki Latvia

Dear Family, Friends & Partners in prayer,

Merry Christmas & greetings from St Gregors Mission Center in Saldus Latvia!

Yes after 4 months of wrestling with the Lord in prayer, I find myself once again walking the country side of Latvia.

I arrived November the 16th just in time to celebrate my 45th birthday & Latvia's birthday which took place November 17th & 18th.

Life in Latvia:

It was great to be back in the Striki school were we hold our Bible English camp during the summer. Although now this is the regular school season which is very different from the summer. Many of the kids were both shocked and excited to see me again.

Since I arrived at the same time they had a national holiday, I was able to once again spend time with my good friends, Kristine, Edgers, Ralfs & Kristaps at the farm which is located in the country side between Saldus & Striki.

For 5 days all we did was eat, play games, have fun and eat some more. What a blessing to turn 45 with great friends.

My New Role as Teacher & Friend

I have already jumped in feet first helping out at the school. On Mondays afternoons I give guitar classes. Monday and Wednesday night are sports night with the boys from the school. Thursday & Fridays I help out with English & drama.It can be real tricky trying to teach English to students without a translator, but it can be done. What I did not know was that male teachers are very rare in Eastern Europe. During the soviet times it was consider a "women's" job only. The sad part was there has been no positive male role models for the boys and teen boys to follow or look up to.

Daina the head master of Striki school shared how glad I was not only willing to come back to help her, but that I was a male and would be a good example to the boys in the school.Please pray that my life will point them all to Jesus. It is very humbling to me when I notice that there are eyes both boys and girls watching every move I make.

Other Ministry in Latvia
Besides working in the Striki School, I will also be serving both St Gregors Mission Center/Bible School & St John Lutheran Church in worship services, youth out reach and street evangelism.

I also started my "Carols of Christmas" concerts for December were I'll be singing through out Saldus/Striki Latvia. So keep that in prayer.

Challenges
Well besides getting used to the snow, ice & extreme cold (St Gregors has been with no heat for the last week. So all of us have been shriving as we walk down the hallways wrapped in blankets.) I am so grateful the Lord open this door for me to come back to Latvia.
The challenge that I face is trying to connect with people. Because I only know English it can be very tough fitting in. As Americans, we are more outgoing were it seems to me that eastern European people are very reserved.

Unlike in the states were I have a fellowship to go for Bible study, again here I know not of any that would be in English. I think it would be very different if I spoke and understood Latvian.
Believe me, I rely on the Holy Spirit like crazy when I have to singing and speak in front of people and it is only in English when everyone around me speaks Latvian!!I think its time I just really buckle down and hit some "learn Latvian" books and CD's!

Yet even with those challenge, I know in my heart of hearts I am right were I'm supposed to be. One thing about missionary work is be ready and willing to be taken outside your comfort zone in so many ways. Flexibility is a must...believe me since I have been here, I have already been stretched in ways I never thought I'd could be and still survive.
So please keep me in your prayers. It has been both an exciting and at times a scary "ride" seeing the Lord move & use me in ways I'd never would have tried on my own.

Dear family, friends & partners in prayer.
I just got back from the Upper Room recording studio in Ellwood City, PA. I was there to work on my "Before Your Throne" CD as well as share at "New Beginnings Fellowship" in Ellwood City, PA. I would have gotten this news letter out earlier, but so much has happened since I last wrote you.
Musicianary to Latvia & Eastern Europe
Well it is official!! I am now a "long term" Musicianary to Latvia and will be heading back November 15th 2010!

The board of East European Missions Network voted unanimously for me to represent the ministry of EEMN as a "Musicianary" to the work they have been doing in Saldus & Striki Latvia for the last 5 years.
With the funding for the plane ride to Latvia now provided for, Pastor Bill Moberly the director of EEMN, feels I should head back to Latvia around the 3rd week of November.
The plan will be for me to spend the winter in Latvia (Nov 2010 to Feb 2011), come back to the states for a few months and then back to Latvia May-Aug 2011. I would pretty much be living in both the states and Latvia.

While in Latvia, my goal is to work closely with Principal Daina Zandberga and the children at the Striki School that has hosted the English Bible camp since 2006. I would also build relationships and do ministry with the college students at St Gregor Bible School in Saldus, where I'll be living, as well as help out Pastor Guntis and the church family at St John Lutheran Church in Saldus .
I am also looking forward to working a long side my good friends pastor Martins & his wife Gunta of Riga the capital of Latvia. My prayer is the Lord would open doors of ministry for me not only in Latvia, but the other Eastern European countries.

Dear Family, friends & partners in prayer,
One of the unwritten rule here in the States is that Labor Day weekend marks the end of the summer and the beginning of the school and fall season.
I am very thankful to the Lord for such a great summer of ministry and travel.
A big thank you to the many congregations and fellowships who had me come and be apart of their worship service and out reach during this summer.

My Love for Latvia & the Eastern European Countries

I wanted to thank everyone of you who have prayed and supported my recent mission trip to the country of Latvia. This was my 3rd trip to the country.
For the last four years, I have been feeling that the Lord has been calling me to the Eastern European countries. My recent trip to Latvia only seem to confirm that calling.
After much prayer & pastoral counsel, we all have come to the same conclusion that the Lord is calling me back to Latvia and the Eastern European countries.

With that in mind, we feel that GentleWind Ministries International is now shifting towards mission ministry and that my ministry events here in the states will be to support the mission ministry the Lord is calling me to in latvia and beyond. We are also once again teaming up east European Mission Network (www.eemn.org).
Lord willing I am looking at heading back there in December and staying for a few months.

Dear family, friends & partners in prayer, Wow! I can't believe where almost half way through 2010! Summer is here and so far the first part of the summer will be busy for me.

Back in the Studio

My 1st summer tour began May 28th to June 6th as I was back in the recording studio with David LaDuke of the Upper Room recording studio in Ellwood City, Pennsylvania.

During the day and some evenings I was working hard in the studio recording three additional songs as well as re-recording some of my lead vocals to some songs I recorded last year. In between recording seasons, I had some ministry events in Ellwood City. So to say I was kept busy would be an understatement Once again I was blessed to have the musical touch & arrangements of David LaDuke.

David arranged some very demanding and in some ways tough vocal parts for me that not only stretched me but also took everything out of me. Sometimes it took hours just to do one measure of the song to the point you got sick of hearing it. But when we sat down and listen to the play back..it was worth every sweat, tears and frustrations. I'm pretty much done with my part. Now David has to add all the musical arrangements to what I already did. David is very excited about this project due to that it is the most diverse musical recording I have ever done. I'll keep you posted as it unfolds.

Latvian Mission trip

New Car at Last!!!

On May 27th before I was to leave for my PA tour the Lord open a door for me to buy my next door neighbors 2001 Grand Am car. Oh what a difference it has made already! The car is so quiet and rides so smooth. And most of all everything works!!! Including the heater!! (Remember how cold it got last winter driving around freezing because I had no heat in the van??)

And talk about savings. To fill the tank is so much cheaper!! Its nice to get 27 miles to the gallon, then 16.

My deepest and heartfelt thanks to all you prayer partners who went to bat for me and prayed in a new car for me. I also want to thank my neighbors (who now live in NYC) David Marsh & Micah & Aerodine Composites Group who played a big role for this awesome blessing.

Back in the Studio

At long last, I will be once again teaming up with producer/arranger

David LaDuke of the Upper Room recording studio in Ellwood City, Pennsylvania. For those of you who remember, I started this project a year ago with Steve Dickerson of Audio Integrity back in North Plainfield, New Jersey. I knew I wanted Dave LaDuke's musical touch and arrangements for my first full-length studio recording in ten years. I have to laugh that it has been almost a whole year, but good things are worth waiting for. I will be in the studio from May 28 through June 7. Not only will we be working on arrangements, but I am hoping to record three additional songs that I didn't get

to record back in June.

Twenty Years Later

As many of you know, this past March marked my twentieth anniversary of being a full-time traveling musicianary, and the Lord seems to be making this a very memorable year. In March of this year, He blessed me with a trip to Israel, but what I failed to mention in my last newsletter, is the dramatic way the Lord spoke to my heart while I was in Israel. The one moment that sticks out the most was one evening while sitting on the sea of Galilee, and looking back at the last twenty years of my life, and just shaking my head and even questioning if I was in the Lord's will, or if I had wasted those twenty years of my life. I pretty much was having a pity party when the Lord spoke to me and said that He wanted me to get baptized the next day. So, for the next ten minutes I was arguing with the Lord, reminding Him (like we really need to remind Him of anything!) that I didn't need to be baptized--I am a minister, and I was baptized, and I have baptized other people, but He would not let up! And He finally said, I want you to get baptized tomorrow because I am going to recommission you." For some reason, that hit me like a brick. I sat there, and even asked the Lord, "You mean I've been decommissioned all this time???" I am sure if I were to get a glimpse of heaven, I would see the Lord laughing. He just said, "No, I am just going to recommission you."

The next day was the baptism service. I did not tell anyone what had happened, still questioning if it was really the Lord who said that. And besides, I was the worship leader, and I had a job to do! There were twenty people signed up to get baptized, and I was not one of them. I hadn't told anyone. But when the last person had been baptized, the pastor pointed at me, then pointed at the water, and then looked at me as if to say, "You, too?" I knew I had to go in. Now mind you, when I came up from the water, the heavens didn't open up, I wasn't glowing, in fact, I still kept wondering why the Lord would ask such a thing.

As I was drying off, a man from England who was watching the baptism stood next to me and out of nowhere said, "It's good to follow the Lord in baptism, isn't it? It's always good to obey the Lord." Now mind you, I've never met this man until that moment, but let's just say it really had an effect on me.

In fact, since being home, the Lord has been speaking through people, reaffirming that the Lord is up to something good in my life.

I finally looked up the word recommission, and it means to give a new commission, or to validate an existing commission, to put back in service, and the word commission means a sending or a mission to accomplish something, which only seemed to reaffirm in my heart that while I was in Israel: one, I was called to Israel; two, I was sent to Israel; and three, and the one that really hit, I was summoned to Israel. The imagery that popped into mind was that of a soldier being summoned by his commander and given his next order.

Now the million dollar question that people keep asking is, what have you been recommissioned for? And all I can say is that I have no clue, but all I do know is that it is fast approaching, and I will keep you updated as it unfolds.

The Twenty Year Reunion

One of the most unexpected surprises that happened to me recently was reconnecting with long-time friend and singing partner, Nancy Trimble. Nancy and I used to sing together back in California from 1989 to 1990. Through the wonders of Facebook, we reconnected, and since I had some events in Wisconsin where Nancy currently resides, we decided to meet up for dinner. What was supposed to be just an hour of small talk and dinner turned into six hours of us both trying to cram twenty years of life into one conversation. Since I had events in Wisconsin, we were able to hang out a lot with my Sheboygan family. Off the cuff I decided to take out the guitar and see if we still "had it." To everyone in the room's amazement, including ourselves, we were amazed at how we didn't skip a beat and how we blended so well together, and it was hard to believe that we had not sung together for twenty years--you couldn't tell. I had the honor of having Nancy join me in some of my ministry events in Wisconsin. It truly has been a blessing to sing together with my long-time friend of twenty one years. Nancy and I are seriously praying about possibly recording together, so we are waiting on the Lord for his timing and provisioning. I'll keep you posted about that as well.

Mission trip to Latvia June 24^th to July 5^th 2010

Dear Family, Friends & Partners in Prayer,

This summer I have the opportunity to do 10 days of ministry in Latvia which is off the Baltic Sea and borders with Russia.

Eastern European Mission Network, (www.eemn.org) is a very Bible based-Christ centered mission group that works in close relationship with indigenous believers, often Lutherans, in Belarus, Czech Republic, Estonia, Latvia, Poland, Russia, Slovakia, Ukraine and Turkey.

EEMN’s highest priority is to help train a new generation of Christ-centered, Bible-based leaders committed to the fulfillment of the Great Commission and the rebuilding of their church.

I’m teaming up once again with East European Mission Network & Spirit of Joy Lutheran church in Indianapolis, IN for this awesome out reach to the people of Latvia.

The first time I went (summer of 2008) I was kept busy.
During the day I was the worship leader, music & English teacher for the "English Bible Camp" at a school in Striki , Latvia .
In the evening I worked with pastor Martins & his wife Gunta who lined up several preaching & singing events for me. I look forward in serving both the school & pastor Martins & his wife Gunta again. This will be my third visit to Latvia .

As before, our role for this mission trip is to be “teachers” for the English-Bible Camp. With the Bible as our main text book, the students (ranging from 1^st to 9^th grade) will learn English through God’s Word. The format is some what the same as doing a Vacation Bible School (VBS) as we include opening worship, English class, out side activities, arts & crafts, music class and a Gospel message every day.

Not only was I assigned the 6^th grade class for this year, but I was once again asked to be both the worship leader and the music teacher since they kept getting positive feed back when I was last there in 2008.

My experience when I was in Latvia both in June & October of 2008 was life changing and rewarding for me. I have a deep love for both the country and the people who for over 60 years were under the former Soviet Union control and oppression. There are so many who have yet to hear about the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I felt in my heart that the timing was right from the Lord for me to go back.
Eastern European Mission Network was really excited that I was returning back to Latvia . In fact they already purchased my plane ticket!!

I am currently raising support for this mission trip. The total cost of the mission trip comes out to $2,237.22.
Flight cost $1,362.22. Camp cost plus extra baggage $875.00.

I am also raising additional support of $1200 that will help cover my 2 weeks away.

I thank the Lord for the individuals who have given towards this mission trip. So far we have raised $1,690.00.Praise the Lord!!! We just need to raise $ 547.22.

Even though there was a due date of April 30^thby EEMN, they were kind enough to extend the deadline till May 15^th.

Dear Family,friends & partners in prayers:
Boy! What a month March turned out to be. "March madness" has a whole new meaning to me now.
It started with me joining pastor Bill & his son pastor Scott Gallation on their Israel Holy Land tour they host very year. I was blessed to be the guest worship leader for the tour. To me the biggest high light of my 20 years of being a traveling musicianary.

We where there from March 3rd to the 14th traveling mostly around the Sea of Galilee, the Dead Sea & Jerusalem. Most of the times I found myself very quiet trying to take it all in. I kept pinching myself to make sure I wasn't dreaming. I had some very profound personal moments with the Lord on this trip. In fact before I left, I kept feeling that Israel would be a "turning point" of some kind....and in many ways it was. But I'll share that at another time.
But I would like to share with you my "Pictures from Israel" & " Video clips from Israel"

Partner up with me for Latvia Mission Trip

As I shared in my February newsletter, I have been feeling the Lord is leading me to return to the country of Latvia. I would once again team up with Eastern European Mission Network & pastor Martins & Gunta Irbes. The mission trip is from June 24th to July 5th.

The last time I went (summer of 2008) I was kept busy.

Dear family, friends & partners in prayer,
Just a quick update. I leave for the Holy Land of Israel March 3rd and return the 14th. I will be leading worship through out the Holy land tour hosted by Pastor Bill Gallatin of Calvary Chapel of the Fingerlakes in NY.

To say I'm excited would be an understatement. I feel in my heart that this is a big gift from the Lord who 20 years ago this month asked me to take the big step of faith and leave my job as a dishwasher for "Garry's Deli" in Irvine, CA and go out on the road and begin touring.
Wow 20 years later I never in my wildest dreams ever think I'd be touring much less singing with my guitar in Israel.

Please pray for our tour group made up from some wonderful people from the surrounding Calvary Chapel's in the Rochester, NY area.
Pray for the following
1) Safe travels to & from Israel
2) Safety for all while in Israel
3) Good health for all (were going to be doing a lot of walking!!)
4)Powerful & life changing times of Bible teaching & worship.
5) That all of us would be renewed, revived, and awaken with a deeper love for the Lord as we walk were Jesus walked leading to Jerusalem, Mt Calvary & finally the empty tomb!!!

And please say an extra prayer for me. I get back on the 14th and start the 2nd half of my 7 week tour in PA on the 16th heading down to NC for the rest of the month.

A Return to Latvia
As I shared in my February newsletter, I have been feeling the Lord is leading me to return to the country of Latvia. I would once again team up with Eastern European Mission Network & pastor Martins & Gunta Irbes. The last time I went (summer of 2008) I was kept busy.
During the day I was the worship leader,music & English teacher for the mission out reach of EEMN for "English Bible Camp" at a school in Striki, Latvia.
In the evening I worked with pastor Martins & his wife Gunta who lined up several preaching & singing events for me. I would later return back to Latvia in October of that same year to share my "Fearfully & Wonderfully Made" (living with ADHD) for a big teachers conference in Riga Latvia.

Dear Family,friends & partners in prayer,
Greetings from Macedon NY as I am now on a 7 week tour.

I just stand amazed how January looked so bleak after dealing with Identity fraud (November) canceled ministry events due to snow blizzards (December) & being laid up in bed sick for two weeks the first part of January looking at an empty calender & shrinking bank account & cupboards.

And yet as I found my faith being tested to really "lean on the Lord" during this lean month, ( I know I'm not the only ministry or family that has been in a tight squeeze or pinching penny's)
I am just humbled to once again see the hand of the Lord not only provide for my basic needs, but provide ministry opportunity's and fill up my winter/spring travel season!!!

Praise & Prayer
A big praise the Lord for His faithfulness during the lean time and for opening up doors of ministry events for 2010.
If the Lord so leads, please pray for the following.
1) The Lords anointing and blessing in and on my life for the busy tour schedule ahead of me.
2) That many hearts will be touched by the Gospel through both Word & song.
3) Travel safety both on the road and over in Israel.

News Update for January 2010

Dear family, friends & partners in prayer,

Happy New Years!!!

I pray your New Year has been good so far. I spent the last few days of December and the first week of January sick in bed. Believe me it was no fun to be stuck in bed sick and miss ringing in the New Year.

But! I am really excited to see what the Lord has in store for GentleWind Ministries in 2010. 2009 was a very interesting year of new things and unexpected challenges.

2009 High lights

What a blessing to serve the Lord on the road in 2009. The Lord open doors of ministry events for me in, Tennessee, North Carolina, Florida, Wisconsin, Ohio,

Illinois, New Jersey, New York, Michigan, Pennsylvania & Indiana.

In 2009, I found my self more in the preacher/speaker/teacher role. A good eighty five percent of my events were speaking/preaching engagements for churches and conferences. I would lead worship and share a few songs here and there.

As for the “teacher” role, I was asked by my good friend Laurie if I would be willing to” fill in” two days for a teacher at Herron High school, a Charter school a block away from my home. At first I thought she was joking since the only “teaching” I have done was at church or for the third graders in Latvia. Plus these were high school students and at age 44, I didn’t feel I’d be able to connect with them.

I ended up filling in for ten days and talk about being stretched and challenged. I covered classes for Environmental & Anatomy, as well as US History, English, Geometry , Study hall, Concert Choir, Guitar, Concert Band & lunch monitor. As long as I had a lesson plan in front of me I was Okay .If anything my teaching style that the Lord gave me came in handy. Now it’s funny to be out on the street and hear “Hey Mr. DMC” from a student who may see me in public.

New Recording in Production

Another “New Thing” that happen in 2009 was getting back into the recording studio and began working on my first full length studio album in ten years.

“Before Your Throne” features 12 songs of praise, worship and story songs ranging in different musical styles.

Teaming up with Steve Dickerson of Audio Integrity, we began recording the vocals & guitars in July while I was on tour in New Jersey. The second half of the recording is being done in Elwood City, Pennsylvania with David LaDuke of the Upper Room studios who will be adding the other musical arrangements.

I will keep you posted on the progress of the recording and when it’s due to be released.

The unforeseen Challenges

2009 also brought unpleasant challenges. In November while on tour in North Carolina, several “set backs” happened.

Out of no were my right arm and fingers begun to twitch and shoot this awful pain. I ended having to go to the doctors only to learn I had “ulnar nerve dysfunction”. Thank the Lord it did not affect my guitar playing very much. But it was still painful.

Currently my right arm is back to normal. Thank you Lord

On the day leaving for North Carolina, my van (a 1993 Arostar) radiator over heated needing to be replaced. My van is pretty much on its last leg, if not on its last knee being dragged so I can get to my events. The most recent thing that has gone out is the heater. Trying to drive in a van that acts more like a freezer is not fun at all. I believe my recent cold was due to my 4 hour drive back home in a blizzard freezing with no heat. One big prayer alert I have is, we need a new van asap!! Or funds to at lest get the heater fixed.

Speaking of funds, financially GentleWind Ministries was hit with a few major blows.

While in North Carolina in November, GentleWind Ministries became a victim of identity theft. This happened while using the ministry debt card at the gas pump in Raleigh. Unknown to me Raleigh had reports of several gas stations being “bugged” so that when you slide the card at the gas pump, a mini chip that was stuck in the slot can read your card and get all the information off your card. I didn’t become aware of this until I went online to update the account and was shocked to see the account was empty! Who ever captured the information went on a joy ride throughout Ohio & Indiana pulling money out of the ministry account.

It was a head ache to file police reports and play telephone tag with the bank, creditors and detectives. By the first week of December, my bank was able to resolve the matter. But it was still a mess trying to work with all the creditors and so forth to get back on track.

If that wasn’t bad enough, December which was booked full with dates ended up having four cancellations because of major snow storms.

Two cancelations happened as I was stuck in the middle of a snow storm on 1-75 heading to the southern states. The roads were really bad and people were sliding off the freeway. I left home at 11am with sunshine and blue skies. I ended up returning home at 2am with snow falling all around me. Thank the Lord I made it safely back, but it really hit the ministry hard financially.

What’s ahead for 2010?

With 2010 being also a new decade, I am really looking forward in seeing what the Lord has for GentleWind Ministries in the coming years.

One big thing that will happen this year is I will be the guest worship leader for Pastor Bill Gallatin of Calvary Chapel of the Fingerlakes in NY and travel with him for the Israel Holy Land tour. What a blessing!! I will be in the Holy Land from March 3^rd to the 14^th.

Another overseas trip I am praying about is to once again teaming up with Eastern European Mission Network and returning to Latvia. That trip would take place from June 24^th to July 5^th. I would need to raise about $825.00 plus international airfare. Would you consider making a donation towards my mission trip?

Our internet radio station "G.W.R" ( GentleWind Music Radio) is now playing a Christmas/worship format. I have been amazed just how worldwide the station has become.
In January when we go back to our praise & worship format, we will be adding some new programing which will include two new Bible teaching radio shows.

New CD Update
I am really excited about how my new CD project "Before Your Throne" is coming along. Producer/arranger David LaDuke of the Upper Room Studio's in Elwood City, PA has already began to tackle adding the other musical arrangements to what I already done back in the summer.
I got to hear what he added so far on the song "Good to Me" which is a very 'driven/some what folk rock' song. I was speechless! I love they way he can bring a song a live!! He'll make this "old folk singer" a rocker yet!!
Speaking of CD's we are once again offering our Christmas special of $5.00 for our CD's that are sold through our friends at Indieheaven. This special is only good through Indieheavn.

Dear Family, friends & partners in prayer,
Well fall is in full swing here in Indianapolis, IN. I am enjoying some "home time" after a very busy & fruitful Northeastern tour that took me through Ellwood City, PA, Fingerlake, Macedon & Wolcot, in upstate NY. Followed by ministry events in Montclair & Eatontown, NJ. Ending my late summer/early fall tour doing a wedding and sharing a local church here in Indianapolis.

I know my home church and friends are happy to see me. Of course that can't compare to Moya the cat who is not only happy to see me, but has been pretty much close to my side since I got home.

Last night (Sept 30th) I was a guest at Calvary Chapel of Macedon, NY were I lead in worship & brought the message.
My deepest thanks to pastor Cartie & Pat for being a great host family for my time in the upper NY state area.

Before that I attended and lead worship for the North East Calvary Chapel pastor conference in Fingerlakes, NY. What a blessing to share and be around other ministers and pastors for a few days.
Being both a minister and musician (or rather a musicianary) I always enjoy being apart a pastors conference.

My first stop on this tour was at Ellwood City, PA Sunday night. I was the keynote speaker for a musician fellowship night. It is also were the Upper Room studio is located at were I will be working with producer David LaDuke on the 2nd part of my new CD project "Before Your Throne". He will be adding musical arrangements to my basic tracks that I am still working on with Steve Dickerson in North Plainfield, NJ. I am so excited about this new full length studio recording of 12 original songs that for so long have been in my head. No release date is set, But I'll keep you posted.

Dear family,friends & partners in prayer,

End of Summer
Is it just me? Or did summer just fly right by?? I think the reason why it seem to fly by for me was the Lord kept me very busy with so many ministry events that took me to OH,IN,NJ,NY & WI. From Speaking engagements at conferences to leading worship or sharing in song for worship service, I had so much fun meeting new people and being in new places and cities.

"Before Your Throne" now in production
It has been 10 years since I have released a full length studio recording. Steve Dickerson of Audio Integrity in North Plainfield, NJ. has been great to work with. It's amazing to finally hear the songs on playback after hearing them so long in my head. This new CD will feature 12 new songs ranging in styles. I have been playing the rough cuts to some people who have told me it is my best work yet.
I am hoping to have the musical arrangements of David LuDuke of the Upper Room Studio in Ellwood City, PA added to the project. David was the one who produced my songs "Fearfully & Wonderfully Made" & " Wounds & Pain". But first I need to head back to New Jersey to finish doing my vocal tracks.

3-14 Israel Tour with Pastor Bill Gallatin

One of the big blessings that has happen while on this tour is I am back in the studio again. It has been a long time since working in the studio and I'm really excited to get all those songs that have been stuck in my head out on "hard drive" (back in the day it would have been "tape".)

We have recorded 22 songs, 12 are of my own and 9 are well known worship songs that I have had many request to do my own version.
So what ended up happening is we are doing two CD's at once. The well known worship songs are going to be on a collection called "Alone With You". I am doing it in the style like I did with my "Hymns for the Quiet Moments" by keeping it very acoustic using only my vocals and guitar. I have been surprise how many request I keep getting for me to do a simple worship album with out all the extra production.
The collection with my own songs will be called "Before Your Throne". I am having a lot of fun seeing this come together. This will draw on some different styles and influence. I have played a rough mix of two songs that are way different from the other and I have gotten so much positive feed back. This one may take a little longer. I'll keep you posted as it comes together.

Greetings from Naperville, IL!!!
I'm on the kick off of my June/July summer traveling season.
My first stop is at the ICHE convention. (see www.iche.org for more info)
This convention is HUGE!!!! The church that hosting it is as big a football stadium!!!
I am one of many work shop speakers for this convention. I have been asked to share my "Fearfully & Wonderfully Made" presentation 4 different times. I am so overwhelmed just by the feed back I have had so far. It is very humbling for me to see the Lord use my life story to give hope to so many families that have special needs children.

No Place Like Home
May was a nice month of being more at home. This has allowed me to reconnect with some friends and get involved with small groups or just sit in the pew and receive from the Lord. It's nice when I can be "David Michael" the person and not have be in any leadership position in church. Many people know me for what I do, but not for who I am. And in many ways I was able to rediscover more about myself when the Lord open a door for me to help out a Charter high school in Indianapolis called Herron High.

From preacher to teacher
My good friend Laurie asked if I would come and sub for a class for two days. Now I have never done that before, the only "teaching" experience I have ever had was doing Vacation Bible School, or working with music students at two Catholic schools in Indy. The most recent "teaching a class" was last year while I was in Latvia to teach English to a 3rd grade class.
Well what was supposed to be a two day event, ended up turning into eight!
In the end I found my self subbing for the Anatomy class, Environmental class, US History, Choir, Art Class, and English. As long as I was able to get a lesson plan a head of time, I was fine.
Known to the school as Mr "DMC" the Lord gave me so much favor with both faculty & students. In fact the teachers began to request me for their class!!! Whats nice about this is the school is only a block away from my home. In many ways it was a nice break from working at my home office and trying something way out side my box & comfort zone. But now its time for me to go back out on the mission field.

I am excited about the release of a new live worship CD called "Only By Your Grace" (Live Acoustic Worship 2). Recorded Live at Calvary Chapel of the Finger Lakes in NY, this new CD features songs like "Open the Eyes of my heart" "How Great is Our God", "I Love You Lord", "The Nail in Your hands" "At The Cross"( I Know A Place) and many more, plus a few of my own songs. I'm really excited and hoping to at lest have the pre-release ready for my June tour.

Dear Family, friends & partners in prayer,
Wow! I don't know about you, but does it not seem that this year is flying by??? Here we are in May already, next month is June and summer starts. It just seems the older I get, the faster Christmas comes!!!

Wisconsin Tour
Well at lest the last whole week in April made up for me being sick and stuck in bed on Easter in California. I ended April with a whole week of ministry in Wisconsin. Starting off by leading worship at Calvary Chapel of Racine, WI. Great to see pastor Robert & Jim again.
That Sunday night, I also shared the ministry with fellow Indieheaven artist Mike Westendorf at Point of Grace Lutheran Church in Milwaukee.
Monday & Tuesday I shared at the Upper Room Cafe in Sheboygan, WI. It was so good to see Mary and the Sheboygan gang again.
Got to stay and visit with my Sheboygan "mom & dad" Kate & Randy. Wednesday night dinners are the high light for me with the whole family!!!
Then up to Appleton, WI for the Great Lakes Calvary Chapel pastor conference, were I shared in songs a few times. It was awesome to catch up with other pastors and leaders and be really encouraged.
I ended the week at Christ Lutheran Church in Hammond, IN. What a powerful service!! It was good to see pastor Roger again. Pastor Roger was on the mission team I was with that went to Latvia with last summer

Dear family,friends & partners in prayer,
First I want to wish you a very belated "Happy Easter" and hope you had a great Resurrection Sunday with your loved ones.

My Easter Visit
I got to fly back to California to spend my first Easter in 20 years with my family. I was able to catch up with my cousin Monica whom I haven't seen since Christmas Eve 1996 and my good friend Anthony Ping whom I haven't seen in a while since he moved away from Indiana. They ended up being the only ones I would see.

Easter Sunday, while mom and dad are running around getting ready for church, I'm stuck in my old room curled up with the flu!!!!! I was so sick I missed church and Easter dinner with my mom's extended family.
I felt bad. My mom invited all my aunts,uncles and cousins to see me and while they are having a great time eating, I'm stuck in my room wondering if I'm at deaths door!!! I later found out my sister and all her family were sick as well and didn't come either. And Monica my cousin ended up getting the flu after I left.
So this is one Easter I'm sure I won't forget. But mom is already making plans to get me back for another family get together sometime this year.

Back on the Road

Happy St Patrick Day!!!

Well, 2009 has been a very good year for me so far. I enjoyed my 6 week tour that took place from January 16th to February 23rd.The Lord open doors of ministry events in TN, NC & FL.
If you followed my blog @ myspace.com/gentlewindmusic or my facebook page, you saw how the Lord poured out His Spirit on not only the services but in my own personal life.In Florida, I was blessed to share at Calvary Chapel of Orange Park, Calvary Chapel of Miami, Calvary Chapel of Gainsville, Calvary Lutheran Church in Apollo Beach, & a special night of music & ministry at my host family Pam Kerstetter at the Andaluica in Apollo Beach.

This was also the tour I saw the Lord provide blessings in ways I could have never dreamed of. As many of you know,my van I call M.V ( which stands for Miracle Van, because it's held together by God glue & tape) started to give me trouble while going through the TN mountains. In fact as one mechanic would say, "If it was a horse, it be put out to pasture by now".

Well it just seem that once we fixed one thing, something else would happen. Yet the Lord provided. In the end I felt like I was driving a rebuilt van back home to Indiana with brand new tires, wires, spark plugs and a gear shifting "what you ma call it" that not only made the van drive smooth again, but gave me the cruise control back that has not worked since July of 08.
Another "surprise" blessing was a brand new classical guitar someone gave me in North Carolina.The Lord also provided financially to were I was able to invest in ordering more books, CD's and supplies for the ministry. Thank you to all who came out to the events and to all who gave to the ministry.

It has been nice to be home the last few weeks. It's rare when I get to sit in the pew at my own home church and just receive.Catch up with friends, or sleep in and not have to rush some were. I am learning that after a long tour, it is wise to take some time to regroup. But at last, time for me to hit the road and get back to the mission field.

On March 25th, I leave for Nashville, TN to attend the C.I.A Christian music conference. I was asked to be present for the Indieheaven awards night on March 28th were I am to be presented an award. WOW!!!! I'll keep you posted on that.

Life on the Road #3 Florida

Dear Family, Friends & Partners in Prayer,
Thank you for all the kind words, emails, prayer & financial support you have given me the last few weeks.
To bring you up to speed about my van, in North Carolina we had two spark plugs and a wire replaced (which was causing the van to drag slow) I was also blessed by the Forest Hill United Methodist Church in Concord, NC with four new tires!! I did not realize my tires were bare to the medal. My van is currently getting some more work done on it (Lord willing its just a few adjustments that's all that's needed)

The Lord also bless me with two more added events in North Carolina. Two powerful times of Worship and sharing at Calvary Chapel of Huntersville (Thanks Jack & pastor Mike) & Spirit of Joy Lutheran Church in Weddington (A big thank you to Sharron & Pastor Ed).

One big blessing and surprise was after my event at Calvary Chapel, a member gave me a brand new classical guitar with a case. I was speechless! Hand crafted, brand new.
Until 2004, I used to play a classical guitar, but retired it and passed it on to Ryan Zachariah. (Its now safe and sound in Newton, NJ). I have fallen in love the feel and sound of my steel string guitar (also hand crafted) for the past 5 years. But at times missed the sound of the classical for certain songs. I just feel the Lord gave me an added blessing with this guitar. I now feel I have two "kids" in tow with me.

I'm now in Florida were my first stop was at Our Savior Lutheran Church in St. Petersburg,FL.
It was great to share again with Pastor Paul in all three services. I am blessed again to stay with Pam Kerstetter and her family in Apollo Beach, FL during my tour in Florida.

Life on the Road #2 & Personal thoughts

I'm Still on tour
Have 5 more weeks to go. Been kind of crazy this first week. Van broke down, and needed repairs .
The repairs didn't cost me an arm or a leg (replace bad spark plugs and wires) but it threw me off financially. I didn't have any events after Christmas, so I was living off the savings from my last tour.I also need new tires before I head to Florida. The two back ones are worn out!!!
In spite of the very tight funds (some how in spite of me, the Lord will do what He needs to do)
The Lord has blessed the last week of events. I have had many touched by the worship time and the sharing of the songs "Trust in You" & "Fearfully & Wonderfully Made".
This weekend I will not only lead worship, but preach and do concerts.

One out of the blue surprise that has happen yesterday, was after my sharing at Calvary Chapel of Huntersville, NC a member from the church gave me a brand new classical guitar with case. Its so new I'm afraid to touch it! It's has a great sound. I will use it sparingly. I have gotten used to my steel guitar of 5 years because it has traveled with me in the last life changing 5 years I have had..so it will be my primary guitar.

I have found myself "grieving" inside. It has hit me as I have found old former friends I used to hang around with (most still live in Portland, OR or CA) via facebook, myspace..they have moved on. Married for 10,15,some almost 20 years with kids now grown. Or the friends I had here in the Midwest or Southern states, they have moved away or moved on with there relationships . It just hit me..wow..I'm a lone now...The world I knew is gone. The people that were apart of my life for years are gone. Ryan Noll who has been my friend for over 6 years is the only one that is left. But even that can change since he is a daddy and has kids to raise.
I wonder what 2009 will hold. Who else will I see leave. And who will be entering my life..and who will return..and who will be staying. Its like a soap opera. Actors come and go once a story line begins or ends...I wonder what "story line the Lord is writing for me for 2009. And the "actors" who will come, go or stay as its played out..I guess well "watch what happens"...

Life on the Road # 1 & Prayer Alert

To say the last few days have been exciting would be an understatement.
On January 16th (also my parents 44th Wedding Anniversary and my sister and her husbands 10th) I kicked off the beginning of my 6 week tour at the U Turn 4 Christ Ranch in Greeneville, TN. What a blast to lead worship and share my heart and music with the men and women who are rebuilding their lives in Jesus Christ. Pastor Steve has such a heart for those who's lives have been greatly effected by drug and alcohol abuse.

Next was Horizon Christian fellowship in Charlotte, NC. Again the Lord moved greatly through the worship service. Many were touched by the song, "Trust in You" and "Fearfully & Wonderfully Made". It was good to see pastor Terry again after 4 years. I was also able to pick up an extra event at Calvary Chapel in Huntersville, NC on Thursday January 22nd.

Yesterday (Jan 20th) you could feel the excitement in the air every were you went!!! I was able to catch up and have lunch with my long time friend Angela Connell who works for Morning Side Assisted living home in Concord, NC.
Angela set up a afternoon concert for me for the residents of Morning Side.
It was such a blast!!!
Not only did I do a lot of selections from my Hymn CD, but they really enjoyed "Mike & Mary" my version of "Jesus Loves Me" "Let the Words of My Mouth" and I shared the story how I wrote the song "Trust in You" and how I was asked to share it in Littleton, CO 10 years ago. I closed our time together with"Amazing Grace". The staff were awh strucked and would later shared with me they have never seen the residents so glued to a performer before or sit still. In fact after I was done, they didn't want to leave!!! Again the Lord moved in away that even touched the staff!!!

Prayer Alert!!!
Today (Wed Jan 21st) I took my van into the auto shop. On my way through TN and to NC, I notice my van was dragging, in fact it sounded like I was driving a putt putt car!!! If that wasn't enough, water was leaking, but inside the passenger part of the van!! I kept smelling burnt wood..when I got to my hotel in Charlotte I notice that the floor were the passenger seats would be was soaking wet and very hot!! As I lifted my suitcase and guitar, steam rose from the floor. What was burning was my guitar!!!
I'm waiting to hear back from the mechanics. I don't know what needs to be done or how much it will cost. Please pray the Lord will provide the funds.
Next Wednesday I head down to Florida for a full month of ministry dates. I'll keep you posted!!
One good news is a member of Horizon Christian Fellowship is letting me use there car for my whole time here in Concord, NC so thank the Lord, I'm able to get to the events that are booked here in NC.
I know the Lord is in full control.( I got that in my head, I just need it to get back down deep in my heart!!!)

Happy New year and news update

Dear Family,Friends & Partners in prayer,
What a year 2008 was!! I'm still shaking my head as I thank the Lord for such an awesome, power pack year of ministry and traveling!!

The Lord open some major new doors for me as He has been having me move more in the area of preaching & speaking and leading worship at pastors conference,teachers conventions,Churches, Christian Schools and Colleges.
My travels in 2008 took me to California, Florida, Wisconsin, Illinois, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, Minnesota,Tennessee,Kentucky, Ohio,
London, Berkshire,& Windsor England, Saldus,Strakee & Riga Latvia, and of course my own state of Indiana.

I'm enjoying having some down time right now in Indiana. It's nice to be able to go to my own home church and just sit and receive and be David Michael the average person. My home church never lets me get a big head and always keeps me grounded in spite what great press release or achievements or awards I may have gotten.
Speaking of awards, I was notified by Indieheaven.com in Nashville TN that I am to be a guest at the the 4th annual CIA Christian Music conference and I'm up for my 2nd Momentum Award from CIA & Indie Heaven. I won the first Perseverance award in 2006.

By the way if you have a face book account, feel free to add me as a friend. Just enter my name David Michael Carrillo. I have been amazed in how many long lost friends I have been able to reconnect with after 15 and 20 years.

You know its also hard to believe that this year is my 20th anniversary of the release of my first album "In The Quiet Moments". Released in March of 1989 and featuring Wendy Fransisco of "Wendy & Mary" fame, I could never have imagine that this simple recording would receive heavy airplay or launched "GentleWind Music Ministry" now "GentleWind Ministries International" and have me start touring full time.

Of course the ministry has changed dramatically in the last 20 years. Back then all I did was lead worship & did concerts. Now preaching or teaching at a worship service or speaking, writing a book and doing workshops at conferences & conventions have now replaced doing concerts at coffee houses and concert halls. The one thing that has not changed is leading people in praise and worship and sharing in a few songs that may lead into my sermon or workshop presentation. What an honor to serve the Lord.

For the past few years I have been asked if I was going to be recording anytime soon. The last full studio recording that I did was "Hymns for the Quiet Moments" (Which also featured Wendy Francisco) and was released in October of 2000.

Other recordings like " "For All that You Are"(2006) & "Fearfully & Wonderfully Made"(2007) are mostly live concert recordings with a few new studio recordings, and "Pilgrim Progress"(2007) is a best of collection with two new studio production songs.

There are a few possibilities to do two recordings this year.

Lord willing, one would have me travel to Crack N Noon Studios in Colorado and work once again with Wendy Francisco. " A Return to the Quiet Moments" would feature the praise and worship songs that I have written in the past 10 years.

Another possibility that has presented its self would have me travel to New Jersey and work with producer Bart Conrad to record some of my favorite praise and worship song that I have used in worship services the last 15 years.

David LaDuke of the Upper Room Studios in Ellwood City, PA and I have also been talking about working together on a adult contemporary album. This recording would be very different from any other recordings I've done. Most likely 2010 would be the goal for this one.

Dear family, friends and partners in prayer,
I wanted to wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving!!!
I'm currently writing you from South Plainfield, NJ
were I'm using as a base for my Fall/Winter tour here the NJ/NY area.
My last three ministry events were awesome.
I started off my tour at Calvary Chapel Fredricktown, PA on
November 9th.Had a blast catching up with Pastor John.
I once again was blessed to share at a combine service with
Mini Sink & Deer Park Reformed Church on November 16th.
The church was founded 1732. I love sharing at historic Churches.
This past weekend I preached and did a concert at First Baptist Church
in Westfield, NJ. It was a lot of fun to meet new people.

I'm now doing the "Christmas" portion of the tour as I share my Christmas music.
